Dr. Ben Holtom
From frustrated client to founder
Dr. Ben is a former hockey player with the OHL's Plymouth Whalers and the University of Guelph's varsity team. After multiple surgeries on his hip and knee, he focused on his studies at UoG, completing his undergraduate degree in Human Kinetics with Honours and a minor in Nutrition.
Continuing to rehab from his surgeries, Dr. Ben attended New York Chiropractic College for his Doctor of Chiropractic, with additional certifications in Sport Science and Human Performance.
He then completed his clinical rotation in Buffalo, where he served as senior clerk and developed and taught classes in modern exercise rehabilitation for students and staff. During this time, he travelled to McMaster University on weekends to complete his Contemporary Medical Acupuncture certification.
Since then, Dr. Ben has earned additional certifications as a Neurofunctional Sports Performance Practitioner (advanced acupuncture) and training in functional sports medicine (nutrition and lab assessment).
After seeing multiple practitioners across disciplines to return to competitive sport, Dr. Ben grew frustrated with the traditional approach to care. Twelve years after his first surgery, he now runs and races distance events, after being told he would never run again.
Dr. Ben created iON to provide complete solutions that help clients reach their health and performance goals. He believes it is a practitioner's responsibility to find the best possible approach - using modern techniques and integrated care plans that all work toward the same goal.
